Lou Lamoriello was right to make his move for a veteran forward to replaces the injured Dainius Zubrus. The big left wing had wrist surgery Thursday and will be out for four to six weeks, which in this shortened season is quite a bit of time.
To accommodate the acquisition of Zubrus' replacement, Alexei Ponikarovsky, the Devils returned center Andrei Loktionov to the Albany Devils of the AHL.
Also leaving is veteran Mathieu Darche, the unsigned veteran who remained in New Jersey and skated with the Devils in the hopes of landing a contract. Judging by the trade for Ponikarovsky, the odds of Darche getting an offer from Lamoriello were slim, so he opted to return to Montreal.
